Presidential Honors Program The Kingsborough Presidential Scholars Program is a new academic program, started in Fall 2007, that seeks the involvement of highly motivated graduating high school students with strong academic skills and the potential to succeed. The purpose of the program is to give high-achieving students entering college the opportunity to excel at the two-year college level while completing an Associates Degree, and then transfer to a top four-year college to complete a Baccalaureate Degree.

The Kingsborough Presidential Scholars Program is characterized by:

  • Enrollment in at least one academically-challenging Honors Course each term that will insure the development of a strong foundation in writing, reading, mathematics and critical thinking across the disciplines. Scholars are required to take a minimum of 20 Honor-credits out of a 60-credit degree program, and must maintain a 3.2 or higher Grade Point Average to remain in the program.
  • Small classes, with between 10-25 students, that are taught by specially selected faculty who are experts in their fields.
  • Off campus credit-bearing study opportunities, usually with little or no cost, such as the National Model United Nations in Manhattan, the Salzburg Global Seminar in Austria, the Vassar College Summer Exploring Transfer and Research Program, and the Costa Rica Spanish Study and Peace and Reconciliation Program.
  • Career mentoring by leading college faculty and staff in a one-on-one mentor/mentee relationship.
  • Supportive administrative, librarian and counseling staff dedicated to helping students achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Exceptional scholarship, internship and transfer opportunties to selective four-year colleges and universities.
  • Transformational leadship programs on campus and at local and national conferences that will increase self-confidence and leadership skills.
  • Numerous co-curricular activities on campus and off, such as the Dean's Reading Circle, trips to cultural venues escorted by faculty experts, on-campus lectures and performing arts events, Honors Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, Student World Assembly and Eco-Festival.
  • A Presidential Scholarship of up to $1,000, depending on financial eligibility, distributed over four years, to fully matriculated students who maintain a 3.2 GPA and are enrolled in at least one Honors course for the term.
  • Special perks, such as priority registration, preferred laptop borrowing privileges and priority parking privileges.
